FMS Ensemble performing at Nativity Scene

A selected ensemble will be performing Christmas Carols at the Lubbock Community Nativity Exhibit on December 4th from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend the concert. Entry is FREE. The ensemble will perform at 7016 Frankford Ave, in Lubbock, Texas.

Beginner Practice Dates

Our Beginner band is diligently preparing for our upcoming concert on December 16th. In order to perform our very best, we will be having an after school rehearsal this 
Wednesday, December 3 and next Wednesday, December 10
Rehearsal will run from 3:30 - 4:30 and a late bus will be available.  

Band "Macho-Man"

Recently, our band voted two of its members to be contestants in this years Macho-Man competition at FMS. Our two representatives were Kameron Miller and his escort Seree Sturdivant. 

The students chose them to represent our organization as a group. We think they did and looked GREAT! Thank you Kameron and Seree for representing the FMS Band!!!

Fundraiser!

Our Annual Fall Fundraiser has begun! Make sure you're doing your part to help raise funds for your student and our band program! Money earned by your student will go directly towards helping them pay for their spring trip! This year, the 7th and 8th grade advanced bands will be traveling to Dallas via charter bus to visit six flags and play in a super nice concert venue. Our 6th grade beginners will be making a day trip to Main Event and a local Performance Competition.

End of the Year Band Picnic and Concert

Students and Families,

We are excited to announce the final concert of the year is quickly approaching. Our last concert for the year will be held Thursday, May 15 at 7:00 PM at FMS. We encourage everyone to bring their favorite picnic dinners as we will provide the entertainment. Students will need to arrive at 6:30 for warm up, wearing their band t-shirt.

This is a special night for the outgoing 8th grade class, as it will be their final concert for FMS, as well as for Mrs. Bearden and Mr. Dodd. Students will receive their promotion pin for having completed their year of band, as well as special end of year awards. Make sure you bring your camera to capture the moment!

We are very proud of all of the work that these fine students have put in this year and are excited to celebrate that with you!

Intermediate Band Day!

Parents and Students,

We are very excited about the 2014 “Band Extravaganza” day!!  All eligible intermediate band students will be participating in this special performance and activity.   The day includes performing at the FHS Performing Arts Center for other students & judges, having a clinic with one of the judges, listening to other first year bands, and an awards ceremony.  Following the concerts, we will eat lunch and enjoy games at Main Event.  Parents must pick up their child no later than 4:30pm.  You may pick up your child earlier if needed.

The day for our trip is Friday, May 6th.

Here is the itenerary:

9:15am                arrive FHS Performing Arts Center

Upcoming Band Bash and Patriotic Concert

We are excited about our event this Friday! As you know, we will start the day off with our Patriotic Concert here at FMS! The concert will begin at 9:45AM and we welcome any and ALL veterans or current military personell to join us as our special guest!

After the conert, we will spend the day gaming it up at Main Event and follow it up with an IMAX movie at Premeir Cinemas in the South Plains Mall. Pick up times will vary based on what movie your student is watching, but is expected to be between 6:00-6:30 PM.

Permission forms and trip money should be turned in at this point!

CONGRATULATIONS FMS BANDS!

Wow! What a fantastic UIL Contest Season we had at FMS! The students performed so well! On Wednesday, March 5th, the Blue Band earned a 1,1,1 on stage and a 1,1,1 in Sight Reading! THAT'S A SWEEPSTAKES FOLKS! As if it couldn't get any better, the very next day our Gold Band earned a 1,1,1 on stage, and a 1,1,1 in Sight Reading as well! Again, ANOTHER SWEEPSTAKES!!!

If you can't tell, we're just a little excited!

Guys, That makes 16 straight years of Division 1 ratings for the FMS band program... That's a record, and it's still going!

UIL Event Calendar

IT'S TIME!!!

Your students have worked so very hard on preparing a great contest for our UIL season! Please join us in celebrating all of our hard work for our UIL concert and contest this week. Performances will be held at the FHS Performing Arts Center. Our concerts will consist of two parts, the prepared music concert on stage and the sight-reading portion to be held in the band hall. Parents and supporters will be welcome at both events!!!

Concert times are listed below:
Blue Band (7th period band) - Wednesday, March 5th - 4:15 on stage and 4:40 Sight -Reading

Gold Band (6th period band) - Thursday, March 6th - 2:10 on stage and 2:35 Sight -Reading

*Students will wear the following:
-White Dress Shirt
-Black Dress Pants (men - with black belts and shirts tucked in)
-Black Dress Socks
-Black Dress Shoes (ladies - flats and heels are acceptable without socks)
-FMS Blue Blazer

*It is important that we all look uniform on stage. Please be sure your student is dressed accordingly, as it will directly affect their grade, as well as the band's on stage presence.

*Busses will bring students back to FMS following the sight -reading portion of the contest

Important Spring Semester Dates

We hope that you have enjoyed a restful break and have come back on fire and ready to go!!!

As we all know, this semester presents new challenges, exciting competition, UIL Concerts, Jazz Band performances, our Lock-In, Band Hall Movie nights, and many many more!!!
So lets hit the ground running and have a great semester. 
Lastly, our UIL sectional dates (advanced band only) will run from the weeks of: 
January 13th – February 24th
Two Full Band Sectionals on March 3rd /4th

 Each weeks will be set up as follows:
Monday: Woodwind Sectionals 3:15 - 4:15 (Advanced Bands)
Tuesday: Brass Sectionals 3:15 - 4:15 (Advanced Bands)
Wednesday: Beginner tutorials 3:15 - 4:15 (as prescribed by director)
Thursday: Jazz Band sectionals 3:15 - 4:15
Friday: Free Fridays - Band hall open for anyone needing extra help

Late Busses will be provided Monday - Thursday
